Waiting To Start…

You pile up enough tomorrows, and you’ll find you are left with nothing but a lot of empty yesterdays.

Goals

Life is short. Don’t let it Simmer. Don’t let it wait.

What Are You Afraid to Do?

Sometimes you have to step out to do the things you have always wanted to do.

I love watching HGTVs Fixer Upper! Oh the transformations! Now we are sad to hear that come next year this husband and wife team will no longer be on the series. They decided to move on to something new and exciting!

In the same way, artists in the entertainment industry have over time made the decision to step out. To forget the Fluff. To move on. Names such as Michael Jackson, Beyoncé and more, come to mind.

Making decisions to change, to do something new is always scary. But if we never step out into the unknown to do what we Prefer, we will never know the level of success we can attain. And oh…if we fail…at least we would have experienced something new, something different. Oh that we’ll be braver next time!

What are you afraid to do? Challenge yourself …even when you’re afraid.

21: Orange Cautions The Right Of Passage…

Growing up in the Caribbean, I was never as exposed to the flair of turning 21. In the United States it’s like a right of passage. On campus students receive bottles of liquor to celebrate as if to say ”I’ve made it! I’m grown! I’m finally 21!”

Years ago, an intern that was working with my organization so happened to have turned 21 while on the job. For him it was amazing! He drank the night away! Then to make sure he was still perceived as “responsible”, he slept the rest of the hours in the parking lot to be able to report on time at 8:00 am!

Caution

But be careful. Orange means caution. How many young adults have reached the age and realized it’s just a number? Oh yes they are now able to go to a night club without being barred from entering. Yes, they are now officially considered an adult! Yes they are able to get that driver’s license that reflects adulthood! Yes they’re able to this, or that.

But be cautious lest these things distract from your goal. Age is just a number. Make sure the things that you do… not distract from what’s important in the long-term.

The same goes for any celebration such as that bachelor/bachelorette party when getting married. It’s as though we’re saying we are giving up the past and essentially ‘freedom’.  Therefore men and women rush out the night, or the week before, for one last brouhaha!

Caution. Pause, reflect. Will it be worth your long-term goals if things go awry? What do you Prefer?

Something to think about.

Entrepreneurs’ Dilemma…How Can I Reach More Clients?

How Can I Reach More Clients in My Local Community?

The new entrepreneur often asks the question…”how can I reach more clients?” Marc Bowness posed the question on their behalf to gather feedback for their Interest and use. Many replied. Here are a few:

  • Run local workshops. Speak to local groups (e.g. Rotary). Get involved in the Community.  Joint Venture with other businesses.
  • You can easily target your ideal clients locally via Facebook Ads and easily catch their attention with something that is super relevant and interesting to them.
  •  You can follow the blueprint of Webinars that sell. However, rather than hosting an online event, you can demonstrate your ability to help them by actually helping in a live setting.
  • Get them to register for a FREE workshop in your community, then send them lots of value …#indoctrination before the event to build even more goodwill/affinity. Then remind them of why they really wanted to attend the event and what they will get out of it.
  • Partner with someone who has same target market in your local area and run workshops for their clients. Facebook Ads targeting your local area to give massive value online and also to promote any workshop or event you run …maybe some gyms, mom’s groups etc
  • Run meetups. Join with local council for events. Do pop ups at markets or local events. Approach schools, partner with local cafe, etc.
  • Offer FREE coffee at a local cafe, then have people write their emails down. Partner with others and offer a goodie bag with other gifts and details.
  • Put yourself in your ideal client’s shoes. Who are they? What problems are they trying to solve? Where do they spend their time (online/offline)? Then position yourself in these locations.
  • Attend events. Ask questions. Ditch the pitch and just ask.
  • Ask for business cards and have a follow-up system (write a note on the back to followup with intro)
  • Don’t go to an event for the first time and offer to present.  Give event host a copy of your book and ask if there is anything you can do to help them.
  • Network at least once per week.

Not yet an entrepreneur but thinking about making the shift? Don’ Deny your dreams. Let’s connect!

If you don’t know where you’re going, any road will take you there

Just drive! Hit the road! It doesn’t matter where you’re going. Just drive! There’s not much to that. With no plan, anything you do will get you nowhere. But that’s more than likely not your intention. There’s more Interest and satisfaction for example when you plan your career, or a vacation…knowing exactly where you’re going; researching the cost of airfare, hotel accommodations, tours, not to mention the ton of fun you’ll get from the planning exercise itself!

Here are 11 Goal-Setting Quotes selected that will inspire you to achieve:

  1. Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.

  4. If you don’t design your own life plan, chances are you’ll fall into someone else’s plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much. -Jim Rohn
  5. The greater danger for most of us isn’t that our aim is too high and miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it. -Michelangelo

  11. A goal should scare you a little, and excite you a lot. – Joe Vitale

CHALLENGE:

Adopted from MoveMe. Set one Goal that you can commit to achieve.  Then, make sure you put it in a place where you can be reminded of it every day.  For example, you could turn your goal into a poster and place it on your bedroom wall, or you could make your goal your smartphone background, or you could put your goal on your work desk – anywhere that you will see it often.  Finally, try to tell somebody what you’re doing and tell them to hold you accountable.  The power of accountability can never be overemphasized.  When you have somebody to report to, you will be more likely to push through on days when you don’t feel like it and see your goals through to the end!

First Things First…

Ever spent time searching for something that you know will not add any value to your day? The crazy perfectionist in me does that sometimes. Today, I searched for information and went crazy trying to find something that was like a needle in a haystack. I search, and searched, and searched. An hour later I said let me try this database just once more…maybe it’s here. Another hour later, another database…maybe it’s there. E-filing problem? Definitely!

The thing is …what I was searching for was just something that if I used it in a project, it would be a nice to thing to do. But that search lasted hours and I drew precious time away from the things I really needed to focus on.

Coming up I have a Launch, a presentation, book signing events, and group sessions that needed my attention. Yet….all these goals were lingering while I wasted time on the unimportant.

Putting First Things First

Has this ever happened to you? I’m sure (smile). But though it irks, we need to focus on the important things first, then the other things will eventually fall into place. To answer your Witty thoughts…no, I did not find the document I was searching for. But I was reminded of the principle of putting important things first before other things. Your goal maybe an entrepreneur venture, it may be financial, family, career, or other. But putting first things first, will help you get things done.

What about you? Have you ever experienced this? Do share! would love to hear.

Nothing Compares…

There is Nothing Quite So Useless as Doing with Great Efficiency Something that Should Not be Done at all.

-Peter Drucker

TV Presenter, Author, and Coach, Andrew Eggelton did a video titled “nothing“. It intrigued. I thought he was kidding around but a week later I decided to watch…to see, to hear what the heck he was talking about. What is nothing?

Interestingly, he shared how he asked his staff what they were working on and they quickly (yet smartly) replied “we’re busy“. But he quietly observed to himself that it looked like a bag of  ‘nothing‘ to him.

How many of us scurry around doing this or that in our daily lives? We are busy doing the mundane; the routine; the things we think are important for perception…for others looking on to see. We rush to jobs we hate. We take the kids to extracurricular activities to keep up with the Joneses. We get ready for dates with the ‘ideal’ partner that look right to others but deep down goes against our inner desires. We scamper to buy ‘stuff’ to Inhabit houses that detract from the nurturing ambience required to make it a home. Not to mention spending thousands of dollars on education that Dignify onlookers, while failing to pursue the careers post graduation. It all boils down to nothing.

But why do we do it? To look good? Makes little sense.

Nothing means having no prospect of progress, or value. Renowned Management theorist Peter Drucker, shared that there is nothing quite so useless as doing with Great Efficiency, something that should Not be done at all. Yet how many of us spend our time doing just that. Doing something so efficiently that should not have been done in the first place. Nothing compares to value.

Today, I implore you to Change your nothing. Start focusing on something. Everything you do should be aimed at achieving your goals, dreams, and aspirations. Doing the things that are meaningful to your life. The things that you have always wanted to do. So let your nothing be something today.

Perfection Is The Killer of Dreams…

img_4558

Perfection is the killer of dreams

Perfection is the killer of dreams. Curious, one reader questioned it. I replied….

Perfection is a common factor with high performers. We try to make our tasks as ‘perfect’ as possible much to the demise of getting goals done. We do get them done but (like an Allergic reaction), after doing them over, and over, and over again; double checking and triple checking to ensure everything is in place. Our desire is to avoid a Cacophony of our work.

Meanwhile our competitors who do not care as much, often complete their tasks even with errors. The challenge is they sometimes are accepted giving excuses for ‘errors’.
My suggestion to high performers is to double-check and get it done especially when it’s an application or something where there are others vying for the same contract or position.

So stop triple-checking. Make it Viable…just get it done.

Cheers!
