Reknowned comedian Kevin Hart in an interview about the movie Central Intelligence with Dwayne Johnson, shared that he got into the business of entertainment to be successful and to get to the highest level he can. Naturally, it is clear that he is achieving his goal but he is quick to say that he will not stop because stopping would make him complacent. His desire is to do more. His dream is to reach the status of becoming a mogul. And the only way to get there is by work.

Naturally, it is clear that he is achieving his goal but he is quick to say that he will not stop because stopping would make him complacent. His desire is to do more. His dream is to reach the status of becoming a mogul. And the only way to get there is by work. Interesting…
In a nutshell I think that just about sums up Why some people succeed while others don’t. It’s that simple. Many have researched the paths to success to unveil the answers to those of us whose appetites long to devour the true meaning. To those of us standing at a crossroad uncertain of which way to go. To those of us who through whispers approach our feelings with fear and apprehension. Shane is not alone in her writings that success leaves clues, trails and signs. Whatever the goal ..be it to achieve success in business, personal relationships, taking that dream vacation, or simply getting through difficult times; we should strive through thick and thin. Most well-known successful people including my favorite Stephen King, never gave up when the going got tough. They stuck to it through thick and thin. That said, we reflect on the definition of success that refers to the achievement of wealth, honors or the like. Failure on the other hand refers to the lack of success, or more specifically the omission of expected or required action.
So here are a few insights into the behaviors and actions of people who are not successful. These have been pulled from a few individuals including the likes of Kayiba Mpoyi, Stephen Guise, Deborah Shane, and my own book on Success Strategies as gleaned from phenomenological study. People who fail to succeed:
Successful people learn how to say No. They know which commitments to take on to achieve great success in areas of their lives.
People who are not successful often say things like “I’m not good with numbers”; “I hate studying”; and “I can’t run a successful business”.
They don’t know how to treat others and say things like “well at least I’m being honest”, or “this is just the way I am, deal with it”. It’s said that you can judge a man’s character by watching how he acts when standing in a very long line and is met with bad service; or by how he reacts when you ruin his expensive items.
They ponder a lot. Dream big but lack the courage to go forth. My mantra…Get up! Show up! Just Do Something!
6. Can’t face adversity
Overcoming challenges not only bring us closer to our goals but they turn us into someone we never imagined. Don’t be afraid to conquer your fears and embark on new terrains. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and challenge yourself.
They get discouraged and apathetic when they fail. Essentially, they have a failure mindset long before they even started.
10.They are scared.
They freeze just like the deer that stands fixed before the car hits.
Wrong job. Wrong state. Wrong country. Everything they do they complain is wrong. It is important for them to know when to to move on to something else. Mpoyi’s observation is for real….humans do not have the capacity to be successful at all things.
Apathy can infect any area of our lives and when it strikes it produces failure. The scariest part is how contagious it is. It spreads to other areas of our lives. Like a whisper, apathetic friends can also infect us.
14. They are unwilling or too slow to change
15. They become irrelevant.
16.They have a bad attitude
17. They have skill gaps.
18. They have not developed a unique personal brand
19. They lack discipline, focus and balance.
20. They lack a deep sense of belief in themselves
In summary, people who fail to succeed are more numerous than we can imagine. More importantly, it’s sad to see people with amazing potential ..give up. Suicide is obvious and quite sad. But not so obvious are individuals who internalize things and therefore their natural occurrence may not always be evident. Sometimes it is the guy in the cubicle with the $90K salary, who accepts misery because it comes with a fat paycheck (Mpoyi).

Imagine having virtual doctor’s visits, second-opinion services, in-house breast cancer screenings; 3 organic meals prepared a day; unlimited snack plus coffee and tea; free personal fitness classes, health clinics, on-site oil change (say what??!!); haircuts, spa-truck, bike-repair-truck, nap pods, free on-site laundry rooms, and much more! Way cool right?!! It sure is! And yes, we are talking about the top company to work for …Google! Wouldn’t you just love your company to offer even a few of these awesome benefits? Here are 8 more from Fortune’s 2016 list that captured my attention.
Baptist Health South Florida

Just imagine leaving your company, and having the ability to return within 5 years if you have a change of heart! Not only that but boomerangs are able to take advantage of a policy that allows employees to retain their seniority status and preserve their benefits! This includes retirement vesting, and paid time off-accrual. Way cool right?
Stryker
Stryker (medical device company), encourages employees to observe surgeries, attend trade shows, ride along with sales reps during customer meetings, and listen to patient stories. One employee shared “I see the face of someone who is alive because of our product, and that’s amazing”.

Waiting. Waiting. Waiting. How many times have you been waiting on the perfect opportunity to do something and when it arrives you miss it because it didn’t appear in the manner you thought it would?
Let’s think of simply waiting in the subway for the train to arrive and when it does, you realize you’re on the wrong side of the track. You cry oh snap! Well, what good is that gonna do?
It’s the same with our goals and aspirations. We must be prepared for the opportunity and be ready when it does arrive. Once it’s gone it’s not like we can simply snap our fingers for it to reappear. So much depends on the door we enter to begin a journey, no matter the distance you covered before.
Opportunity. Be prepared.

Moving! It’s one of the most stressful things to do! But moving for desired personal reasons including new job, new spouse (yikes!), education, and more makes the end result more gratifying! We get that Adrenalin rush because it’s something we desire. Packing those boxes, suitcases, and rummaging our belongings into trucks to go away , to Relocate…makes the journey worth the while (well at least through the honeymoon stage). I have done my fair share and have also helped many career transitioners relocate in my HR consulting role.

What’s more relaxing than being on the beach watching the line where the sea meets the sky. Listening to the sound of the waves gushing against the sand. Watching kids play.
Takes you faraway from life’s cares…doesn’t it? Tis Beautiful.
Superstitions, worries, cares of the world aside, everyone needs this time away. It makes life perfect. Meaningful. The serenity of the seaside provides a pause to life’s challenges, workflow, heartaches, sorrow, and pain. It quiets our hearts and instills the comfort needed for life’s cares, joys, goals, dreams, and aspirations.
Staycation, vacation, or whatever you wish to call it, give yourself a boost. Reinvigorate. Re-energize. It will work wonders for your goals, faith, thoughts, and aspirations. Plan your getaway soon.

I hear Footsteps. It’s getting louder. It’s calling. Now shouting for some well needed time to relax.

I hear Footsteps. It’s getting louder. It’s calling. Now shouting for some well needed time to relax. Time to rejuvenate. Time to listen to the waves. Time for quiet, peace, and serenity. I hear Footsteps.

What if I fall? Oh but my darling, what if you fly?
Fear has crippled many. Often our dreams, goals, aspirations, and desires remain stuck by the realities of life. Yes, they may be valid concerns but it’s when we step out in spite of our fears that we achieve great things.

What if I fall? Oh but my darling, what if you fly?
Fear has crippled many. Often our dreams, goals, aspirations, and desires remain stuck by the realities of life. Yes, they may be valid concerns but it’s when we step out in spite of our fears that we achieve great things. Years ago I decided to do a tandem jump-16,000 ft in the air! Boy was I afraid! But I did it anyway. I have always encouraged my girls to be Brave. To step out inspite of their fears. I encourage them to feel the fear but do it anyway. And despite my apprehension…, despite my fear…, I jumped! and I survived with the lasting memory to feel the fear but do it anyway. That’s how I approach my life goals.
Here are a few quotes from people who have achieved great things from different walks of life. My hope is that it will encourage someone today to step out in faith and achieve your dream, your hopes, your aspirations. Go ahead, Express yourself

I think fearless is having fears but jumping anyway.

I tend to think you’re fearless when you recognize why you should be scared of things, but do them anyway.

Natalie Cole
My father was a pioneer in so many ways. He was fearless, and I think that I kind of picked that up from him as well.
I feel myself becoming the fearless person I have dreamt of being. Have I arrived? No. But I’m constantly evolving and challenging myself to be unafraid to make mistakes.

If you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude.

As a young girl growing up, I never liked to listen to the legendary Bob Marley. But as I grew older and matured, I realized that his music dealt with a lot of issues. Issues that plague our society every day. I have often been conscious of my perception of things. I have learnt that things are not always what they appear to be. Often, we must question whether our perception is actually the reality. At times they are not. And just imagine how much heartache and pain we could avoid if we were to look beyond what seems apparent. Let us be mindful that things are not always what they appear to be. Let’s learn to never give up the fight of enduring to the end to achieve our goals, dreams, passion, and desires.
As we peruse Bob Marley’s lyrics to ‘Never Give up the Fight’, do contemplate…have our perception ever been wrong?
Get up, stand up, stand up for your right
Get up, stand up, stand up for your right
Get up, stand up, stand up for your right
Get up, stand up, don’t give up the fight
Preacher man don’t tell me heaven is under the earth
I know you don’t know what life is really worth
Is not all that glitters in gold and
Half the story has never been told
So now you see the light, aay
Stand up for your right. Come on
Get up, stand up, stand up for your right
Get up, stand up, don’t give up the fight
(Repeat)
Most people think great God will come from the sky
Take away ev’rything, and make ev’rybody feel high
But if you know what life is worth
You would look for yours on earth
And now you see the light
You stand up for your right, yeah!
Get up, stand up, stand up for your right
Get up, stand up, don’t give up the fight
Get up, stand up. Life is your right
So we can’t give up the fight
Stand up for your right, Lord, Lord
Get up, stand up. Keep on struggling on
Don’t give up the fight
We’re sick and tired of your ism and skism game
Die and go to heaven in Jesus’ name, Lord
We know when we understand
Almighty God is a living man
You can fool some people sometimes
But you can’t fool all the people all the time
So now we see the light
We gonna stand up for our right
So you’d better get up, stand up, stand up for your right
Get up, stand up, don’t give up the fight
Get up, stand up, stand up for your right
Get up, stand up, don’t give up the fight

One Love is universal. My perspective ….curled up on an island with a good book. Can’t help but to think of the legendary Bob Marley’s song …One Love.
Weekly photo challenge One Love

Some stories must be told. It was the spring of 2003, after experiencing discomfort and a series of medical tests, the news was relayed to her…my little 30-year-old sister. Not only did they find a lump in her breast but it was also malignant. Visits to Specialists left her with two options; remove the breast, or embark on a series of chemo treatment. The option of removal was an uncommon feat at the time, so after engaging family, friends and mountains of prayers, she made the decision to save the breast, and embrace the chemo treatment. A decision she never regretted.
After many bouts of treatment, combined with the usual side effects of hair loss, nervous system changes including numbness, weak feelings, and more…she lost the fight. A fight that lasted over 12 years. She fought to survive for her children. To see them live beyond their childhood years.
I write this not to seek sympathy but to share the innate character of my sister—Carleen, a stalwart! A fighter! A survivor extraordinaire! A teacher by profession, she spent her years in New York, Florida, and the Caribbean educational systems molding the minds of countless youths. Many were overwhelmed by the genuine care and concern she showed for her students, most of whom she brought from non-or-minimal performance to the realms of exceeded expectations.
Today, I choose to celebrate and recognize the life of my sister—Elaine, AKA Carleen. Today, I choose to celebrate the character and personal attributes of someone who has made a difference in the lives of many. Carleen, our family remembers you. We love you! We salute you! What’s love got to do with it? Everything! Your legacy lives on.
