Need Extra Income? Here Are 20 Ways…

There might be goals you’re trying to achieve such as that dream vacation, saving for your first place, tying the knot, getting out of credit card debt, or should I say that infamous student loan! All these examples I’m sure some extra cash won’t hurt!

In a recent trip to New Orleans at a book event, I had to travel around but did not need a car because I stayed close to the business district. Nonetheless, there were times I had to commute. I decided to call Uber and discovered it was very common to find professionals using their cars to earn a few extra dollars before, or after work. One mother Casually explained that her daughter wished to go on a dance tour and she needed the extra dollars! So there she was…using her car to bring in the dough!

Even more, the Symphony of the holidays is fast approaching! And if you’re like me, you’d like to participate in the Yuletide season giving gifts, attending office parties, and entertaining family, and friends.

How To Plan Your Week: 9 Tips to Make it Easy & Practical…

img_4704

I hate Mondays!

This is a common cry of many workers whose jobs are like a desert. A place that is dry and parched. A place that’s without hope. Indeed so many hate the job they do.

Why stay there? Why not take the steps to do something more satisfying that you can step out with a Shimmer of hope, and breathe ahhh…tis Monday! I love what I do!

Well the reality is that for most people that seems like a passing dream. Often there is so much to do that many go the Casual route. Wish it away! Get stuck …unable to do anything.

Need help? Here are 9 tips for those interested in their performance, as adapted from Joe Duncan’s list. This will help you plan your week.

9 Tips to Plan Your Week

  1. Look back on the past week and list everything you did well.
  2. Do the same for those areas that you think you can improve upon this week
  3. Think about the coming week. Set your expectations for your personal performance
  4. Write down the top 5 things you have to get done this week, and by what date and time you plan to get it done
  5. Next to each of the 5 points write down 3 points on how you are going to make them happen. Simple things will do. Don’t make it complicated.
  6. List the top 3 things you are going to do this week that will move your life forward in a big way. Consider, (i) who you can network with; (ii) your biggest income generating opportunity; (iii) identify one skill you can practice or learn to become more valuable in the market.
  7. Write down 2 things you will do every morning before you get ready for work, or for the day.
  8. What’s the one thing that you are going to do this week that will make you feel alive and that will make you feel the greatest sense of joy and accomplishment? This includes things like taking family somewhere nice for dinner; doing something for you (massage, exercise, other), or even just buying toys and giving them to the kids in a hospital
  9. Write it down. Plan it. Schedule it…make it a priority

Does Being Rich Make You Successful?

img_4137-1

I have always been fascinated by the topic of Success. So much that I decided to do three (3) years of research on success and leadership. I interviewed leaders at the top of their organizations to find out what they considered to be the traits that led to their success, and the Challenges they had to overcome. Then I was lucky enough to have the findings published in the Journal of American Academy of Business Cambridge (JAABC), as well as other books.

These days when I go around to speak or attend conferences and events, I take the opportunity to find out what success means to individuals. Listen to Miko Branch Founder and CEO of Miss Jessie’s as she shares her definition of success. Miko is recognized as Pioneer for transforming the haircare industry for natural and curly hair.

Brian Tracy asked the question “Does Being Rich Make You Successful?” Responses came in many forms from those responding “YES–But“, to the more common “No’ responses giving their reasons why.

Thinking further about this Pest-like Lusted phenomenon that defies many, I heard of an ailing executive rolling in the $$$, who had an incurable condition. He was asked the question to which he replied that he would give all his money in exchange for life.

Isn’t that crazy? What most dream and become obsessed about, those who have it would exchange it for life’s normal everyday living.

Define Success

Personally, I believe it is important to define what Success Means to you. It’s no Coincidence. How will you know when you have achieved it? Defining it helps you to visualize your expectations, whether it is to be ‘rich’, get an education, start a family, land that dream job, or become that all time successful entrepreneur. Whatever your goal for success, take the step today to achieve it.

Now its your turn. Do you believe being rich makes you successful? Can’t wait to hear your take.

Cheers!

Who Moved My…

I went to the grocery store that’s been in the same locale for more than 10 years. As I stepped in, the Traditional Fragrance of the familiar faces was missing. Confused, I enquired, where are they? I was told that the owners sold the business and had moved to a different location for a bigger and better venture.

I felt cheated. Immediately I decided I’d go find them for… how could they do that to ‘me’?!

Then I started thinking about my own passion. Daily I encourage individuals to take the leap…, go do what you have always wanted to do. Yet here I was–feeling cheated. How dare me?

Has that ever happened to you? We love the familiar. The thing that brings us joy. The thing that so Harmonizes and makes us comfortable. Safe. Tranquil. At peace. When it’s gone, we feel a hollow in our life…in our soul. I reflect on the book “Who Moved My Cheese”, which became famous because of its simplicity yet profound impact.  The late Spencer Johnson told the story about the Change that takes place in a maze with amusing characters as they searched for cheese. It’s metaphoric delight draws us in as we identify with the characters. Those of us who sniff, scurry, hem, and haw at the sight of change.

Today, I return to my usual self, I am thrilled that the management of that Grocery Store decided to move on. They have gone to achieve their dream. They had taken the bold step to higher heights.

Is there someone you’re blocking from achieving his/her goals? How about you? What’s your own plan for the next 3-5 years? How will you get there? Step aside and allow yourself, family, friend, or foe …(yikes!), to achieve what you/they have always wanted.

Goals: What’s Holding You Back?

I met Daisy Ferguson at a Writers Group event. She shared how she wrote her first book after being afraid to meet an almost Edible request at age 86. She published it at age 88. Now she’s onto finishing her 2nd book at age 90! Indeed no small feat!

Your Descript Tethered Life …

A sprint. A jog. A run. A walk. I sat on a bench in the park stretching. I watched health and fitness enthusiasts do what they love. I stretched more, then reflected on life. Where are we now? The Tethered years fly by …up close slowly; looking back, it’s a flash. I then began scrolling, and there popped the question from a social media forum:

Describe Your Life in ONE Word

Curious, I scrolled through the list of responses. Some were positive, some nonchalant, while others were filled with a bask of the negatives. Here I share a few of the comments.

Surprising | Destined | Stuck | Perfect | Open Book | Confused | Determined | Focused | Blessed | Challenging | Change | Sucks | Fortunate | Tears | Observant | Destined | Surprising |  Progressive | Persistence |Purposeful | Growth | Making | Incredible | Awesome | Evolutionary | Adventurous | Meaningful | Beautiful

Does any of the above responses resonate with your life right now? Can you add any that’s missing? Feel free to share.

Refocus: Your Brand. Their View…

You have made up your mind about where you want to go and what you want to do. Now what? It’s time to set Sail. Take a look at what others will see when they start searching for you. How is your CV/Resume? When was the last time you looked at it? By the way, your Resume should be kept current every time you make a change on the job in terms of your achievement. It should be added. Don’t wait until years later you start scrambling to find what did I do again? What are the gaps between the Dash?

What about your public profiles? Do you have a LinkedIn profile? Is it a ghost (i.e. no picture); does it reflect where you want to be? Or is it depicting some Plucked career you did back when you just started working years ago? What about Facebook? It’s where most headhunters go to look to find out about you before they even connect with you. What are their likes? Dislikes? What activities are you involved in? We can sell ourselves in an interview but when doing a public search, what will they find? Make sure their search comes up with what you want them to know about you.

What Have I Done? This is Crazy!

What have I done? This is crazy!

New job offer. Relocation. Tons of change. Excitement in the midst of fear.  But it comes with the territory. Getting up and going to another land…faraway. Giving up the familiar is no Snack. It is scary… but when we do it, we learn new things about ourselves and about others.

Have you ever watched HGTV’s House Hunters International? Well if you have, you would know that those who take on moving from one country to the next have brave hearts. They give up jobs, family, friends, and often wish they could take their home culture with them. Often they must give up a lot. China! New Zealand! Paris! Japan! The Caribbean! and more for those fascinating new ventures!

We often say we want a change yet we want to hold onto the familiar. It’s normal. In my early career managing international HR, I had the task of sending executives to relocate overseas. It intrigued me so much that I studied Cross Cultural Management. It was often a challenge for those who took the step. But those who embraced the host culture survived beyond the honeymoon stage. They became acclimated to the new culture filled with its languages, people, food, and new experiences.

But like anything else, it works if we stick with it. Naturally if you find yourself among those who don’t like the experience after you’ve done it, no problem. At least you can still say “I did it“!

Only the adventurous can gleefully say “what have I done? This is crazy!” with a smile and the satisfaction of new learnings, and exposure.

Cheers to the new adventurous you!

Jump! Bust The Fear…

Whatever it is…Bust the Fear!  A few years ago, I did something exciting, some may say crazy! I jumped 14,000 feet out of an airplane! Believe me I was really scared as the plane Ascended, but I did it anyway. I have always maintained, that we should do some things even when afraid. Follow fear and you talk yourself out of getting out of your comfort zone. Ask yourself, what do I have to lose? Where will I be this time next year if I don’t make that move? What steps do I need to take?

As I prepared to jump, I planned. I searched for a reputable company with a track record of safety and success. I completed paperwork, insurance and more. Then I stepped out and had the most wonderful experience as I did the tandem jump and floated in the air looking out on the horizon.

That was me. You must create that mindset. Have a Conversation. Ask yourself, what do I want to do? What are the steps I will need to take to get to my goal? Personally, I like vision boards. Like Magnet, they helped steer my way. For example, when studying we are often encouraged to look to graduation and put up that picture where you can see it every day, not Bury it. For me it was my research project. I was not interested in doing a research to place on a shelf at home. No. I wanted it to help others who wish to develop their leadership skills and become successful. So that’s exactly what I did. My research ended up being published in the Journal of American Academy of Business Cambridge (JAABC). It was also published in books, and I use the basis of my research and interest to encourage others through coaching. That’s my passion.

So, go ahead, bust out that fear! Develop that new mindset!

Cheers!
