Visions Martyred…

Look closely. What do you see? Look again.

Dreams

That inner feeling that quietly tugs at your heart. Look closely. Listen quietly. You will hear. Les Brown promoted the saying that the grave is filled with dreams that were never realized.

For years my mom wanted to write her story. She wrote on notepads, pieces of paper, then typewriter, then started reaching for the computer. A journey that lasted decades throughout her life. A journey that was never to be fulfilled. My sister too-like a Martyr stricken by the ravishes of cancer, dreamed of telling her story but like my mom, she too passed away with it in her heart quietly waiting. She accomplished much yet still had that silent dream that was never fulfilled.

Today I write to inspire you, you, and you to go after your dreams, goals and aspirations. Make them real before it’s too late. Don’t wait until the new year…start today. Look back. Reflect. Connect the dots. Create that driving vision. Then Act. It does not have to be perfect. Just start the journey today before it all Vanish.

Cheers!

Culture: Why Do You Do What You Do? 🤔

If you know the why, you will find the how. What does that mean?

The Why

Why do you do what you do? Is it for money? For fame? Love? To make a contribution to society? To leave a legacy?

The How

Finding the how is not as difficult as we make it. In this instance HOW means to create a desired result. This means different things to different people. Some believe the how is too hard. They do not have that Culture of discipline to accomplish their goals. On the other hand there are those who have the drive, the will, the passion to forge ahead no matter what comes their way.

In the movie Castaway, actor Tom Hanks played the role of being shipwrecked on an island waiting to be rescued. After years of waiting, he remembered his why. He wanted to survive to return to his beloved wife. Her picture kept him going throughout his tragic circumstances.

Similarly in the movie Everest, climbers reached the top and were elated but encountered setbacks on descent through severe weather conditions. Their why was to reach the top. Once that was done, in the midst of setbacks all but one froze into non existence because the how was beyond their natural scope.

Vigors of Success…

How many of us walk around alive but frozen? We meander doing daily tasks, attending to work needs, family responsibilities, and more but miss the very essence of our ‘why’. As we approach the end of another year, it might be wise to Stop. Take the time to reflect on your ‘why’. Why do you do what you do? What makes you tick? What provides that zeal…that passion to forge ahead when the going gets tough?

Only then you will be able understand your how. Today, look back on your journey. Are you still on the right path? Connect the dots and move forward to achieve your dreams, goals and aspirations.

Cheers!

Reinvent Yourself: 10 Key Points for Success

There is no such thing as a lifetime career any more. The world of work is now much more fluid than it was before. The lines have certainly been blurred. Gone are the days of jobs for life where you did your time and left with a secure Glaring pension to enjoy retirement with no Argument. You now need to take responsibility for your job security and the management of your career. Make sure you discover and use your internal resources and take a self-directing approach.

Reinventing yourself is something that you must keep doing. Dr. Robert Davies offered good advice on 10 key points to success.

  1. Focus on your personal development. Spend some time thinking about the competencies. What are the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to survive in this era.
  2. Always have a driving vision. Consider these  3 components:

    • Have clear mental picture of the person that you want to be.
    • A clear development agenda to help you get there
    • A clear definition of the contribution you want to make to society.
  1. Schedule a reinvention exercise for yourself every 3 years. Change with the times and avoid becoming obsolete.
  2. Make a commitment to learn something notable each month. If you are not learning something is wrong with the way you are managing your job and yourself.
  3. Be concerned if you don’t make any mistakes. This is not for you to go out and deliberately make mistakes. But if you are not making mistakes, you are not doing anything different. Treat failure as a learning experience and a platform to start a new chapter.
  4. Never accept mainstream popular thinking without challenging it in your mind . Carve out time to challenge, research, and think differently.
  5. Be confident. Never let anyone take that from you. But be quietly incompetent.
  6. Keep an achievement diary. How has your work benefited others? Maintain an updated Resume.
  7. Invest in your network.
  8. Help others. Remember there will be a time when you yourself will also need help.

Need help? Let’s connect!

Cheers!

Finish It.

One of my favorite anecdotes is about the movie Ice Age when the chickens fought hard to save their watermelons because the ice age was coming, and would stay for a billion, billion years! So they had to prepare. During the interface, they said to the mammoth “if you don’t prepare, then doom on you, doom on you”. To which he replied, “so you have 3 melons?”

I don’t know if I stated that scene correctly… but here’s the bigger point. We must have a goal. Then when we identify the goal we must prepare. How do we do that? We plan. Plan the steps from beginning to end. Don’t leave it  Unfinished.

Here’s how:

The Hikes of Success

Traveling in the slow lane, I  get angry. I get upset. Forgetting that I’m traveling in the slow lane. My progress is slowed. My destination eludes me and seem to get further away. My anger grows. My frustration… like a fuse lights up, ready to explode!

But that’s how it is with life. Missed steps, missed deadlines, procrastination. Failed  business, exams, twisted careers, and more cause us to feel like we  are driving in the slow lane. Our goals, dreams, aspirations seems unreachable. We get angry, frustrated, feel punished. But that’s because we have gone off course. We fail to plan. We fail to focus. We fail to keep our eyes on the goal. Milestones recede…ebbs away in the distance. One by one. We procrastinate saying I’ll get it done tomorrow…, but tomorrow never comes.

But all is not lost. Achieving our goal is like a Hike. If carefully planned our long walk to success can be achieved one step at a time. One foot before the other..again and again, and again. And if we plan it, we are able to enjoy the beauty of the experience along the way.

Today, take a step in the right direction. If you slipped… get up, dust yourself off, and get back on track. Your goal will be a step closer for sure.

Fragile: The Art of A Child

The natural creativity of a child inspires us to dream, to expose the feelings of the heart. The heart of a child is not afraid, not Fragile. A child steps out in confidence to do what  he or she wants to do.

Today let’s be like a child. Let’s be bold! Let’s reach for those goals, dreams, and aspirations buried deep inside our soul.

Go ahead. Unveil the Dream. Bring it to reality.

Top 10 Success Quotes

Elegant

I love Quotes. They inspire us to achieve; to go after our dreams, goals and aspirations. They motivate…instilling the desire to move beyond our comfort zone to attain new heights. Quotes encourage… giving us hope especially when we must ride those difficult waves of tough economic times, health scares, job changes, or more. It’s rather comforting to reach for those Quotes that boost our confidence to keep moving forward to maintain the drive for success.

Inspirational Quotes connect us with individuals who have been there done that. Many are the words of famous, influential historical figures whose words last well beyond their years. It is not uncommon for teachers, coaches, and mentors to use the power of Quotes to stimulate our desire to reach our goals. We are driven by their faith in us …that we can accomplish that great feat. Our innate desires sparked, we move forward with renewed zeal.
