Useless. Doing Something Efficiently That Should Not Be Done At All…

Peter Drucker was wise when he said there is nothing quite so useless as doing with great efficiency, something that should not be done at all.

Across from her I stood. Watching as she carefully arranged the papers for delivery. Unknown to her was the intrepid fact that her department would be cut the next day. No amount of hard work could Criticize or change that fact. Decades ago who would ever have thought that society would change. Newspapers were no longer being read by the mass and the company had to cut back. Sad as it was the staff had to be reduced to save what little of the company that could be salvaged to its new online medium.

Peter Drucker was wise when he said there is nothing quite so useless as doing with great efficiency, something that should not be done at all. Tempted? Let’s examine our lives today. What are we doing so well that should not be done at all?  Is it taking a course that you Insist but is no longer recognized and when you graduate you are left out in the cold? Is it staying within your comfort zone in a job that has no room for growth, or worse …almost redundant? Lest we get more personal …is it pursuing a relationship that no longer makes sense?

Be Wise. Look around you. Examine the trends and do only what makes sense for your future self.

Cheers!

It’s Never too Late…

Harland Sanders founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken started his franchise business at the age of 65! That is retirement!

It is never too late to start.

Harland Sanders founder of Kentucky Fried Chicken started his franchise business at the age of 65! That is retirement! Who would have thought that someone could venture out doing something so magnificent at that age? I am sure he was hesistant about this dream. But he did it anyway, and you know what? It became a huge success many, many years after he’s gone.

We also name others like John Pemberton who started Coca-Cola at the age of 55. Ray Kroc who started McDonalds at age 52.  Craig Newmark founded CraigsList at 42, and Robert Noyce founded Intel at 41!

These are just a few of society’s household names that ventured out into the unknown late in their life. So today if you are feeling overwhelmed and feel you are in a mid-life crisis in your 30s, 40s, 50s, or 60s, reflect on these individuals who achieved big things. It proves that we can accomplish anything that we set our minds to no matter the stage in life.

Reflect deeply. Be comforted. Age is just a number. Be patient. Remain Calm. Plan, put your plans into action, cry privately if you must, but never, ever give up! Remember…it’s never too late to start.

Cheers to your success!

Moods ‘n’ Pills: Truth or Dare…

Mood: A temporary state of mind or feeling

A well known executive was overcome with emotion and challenges associated with business scrutiny from authorities, succumbed to an overdose. Celebrities mix pills n potions (Niki Minaj), and too often succumb to overdose intentionally or unintentionally mixing alcohol or prescription drugs. But before we jump to criticize, let’s be cautioned… this can happen to a beloved family member too. It’s all in how it’s handled.

Mood is a temporary state of mind or feeling. Emphasis on the word ‘temporary‘. Often we get memorized with the sense that our mood, our situation will last forever. We are blinded and can’t see the road ahead…the future. We become blinded by the challenges of the here and now.

Moody

Being Moody isn’t always an easy pill to swallow for those close to dealing with it.When the problems come and some feel that they cannot handle it, some choose to take a pill out. To sleep, to dream, to make it all go away. But taking a pill out has never solved any problem… it is only a way of diverting the problem from where it is for a short period of time. The solution is in what we do as a direct confrontation to the problem and through finding the means to confront the issue.

Is it sickness? Call a doctor. Is it financial ? Get a job, change your job, or add a part-time gig. Is it business, or relationship on the job or at home? Find a coach. Talk about it to find a solution. If all else fails move on. Your life and sanity is more important.

Today remember life is a journey that comes with highs and lows. When the lows hit as they will, plan for it. Know where to turn to get the help you need to ride the waves. Relax Life’s journey was never meant to ride alone.

Cheers!

Face Your Giant…

Giant…of very great size or force

Face your Giant.

What’s going on in your life that seems like a giant? Is it a career decision? A conflict on the job? A conflict at home with your spouse, kids or loved ones? When you ponder your future, does it look bleak? Well it does not have to be.

Fight the Good Fight

Oft we hide our pain. We brush it under carpets. We smile when deep down we are hurting. Today be encouraged. Step out despite your fear, your  tear, your troubling heart. Dig deep inside your soul and you will find the strength you need to fight the good fight; to face what lies ahead…to conquer your giant with faith.

Peace.

Life’s a Bridge…Detour.

Peace. Quiet. Calm. Leaves swaying in the wind. Overcast. Tiny rain drops. Light ripples dance in the lake. Couple sits quietly on bench enjoying quiet laughter. Tiny green lizard beckons. I’m scared as always.

30 Minutes Later

Lizard closer. Still windy. Cloudy. Overcast. No rain. Ripples still dance in the lake. Couple’s gone. Still quiet. Peaceful. Serene.

Detour

Why can’t our lives be like that? Without worries, fears, disagreements, cruel marketplace competition, and differences. Because…it comes with the territory. We must learn…grow and that only happens oft in times of turmoil.

If you are facing a roadbock, be like nature and Detour. Work to use obstacles, fears and life’s challenges to create opportunities to advance, learn, love deeply, and grow. Cross that Bridge. Detour today.

Succeed.

Smoked. Hope Banned…

Smoke is a visible suspension of carbon or other particles in air, typically one emitted from a burning substance

We gain insights into the path we have trod by looking back. It’s in looking back that we are able to connect the dots… to understand where we have come from. We find value in quiet reflections that shape the journey to achieve new goals and future aspirations.

Hope Inspires

Many saunter without hope as if it’s Banned. The Smoke that rise inspires but only if we are alert to recognize the signs before its destroyed. So now we take the opportunity to reflect on the thoughts of some of society’s successful people and what they wish they knew early in life. Top phrases include:

  • Don’t work too hard…(but Work hard)
  • Have a blast
  • Build purpose
  • Things will get better
  • Embrace Uncertainty
  • Never let money define you
  • Accept what’s right for you

These statements by Ariana Huffington, Richard Branson, Sallie Krawcheck, Deepak Chopra, Suze Orman, and Clara Shih, are applicable to most if not all of us. We must work hard to achieve, but not too hard that we miss out on life and forget to have a blast!  As we ride the waves of life we must build purpose. Without purpose we will arrive at a destination and wonder what happened. Life is full of uncertainty so accept what’s right for you. Search, seek, find the tools to identify what’s right for you and work hard at it.

There’s no time like the present. So today, find sometime to take stock of your life, your goals, your aspirations. Are you where you want to be? Trace the smoke…the warning signs. There’s always hope to start anew, afresh, Recreate … to get back on track.

Cheers!

Failure: Opportunity In Disguise

Failure. It’s often an opportunity in disguise. And disguises are often misinterpreted. Albert Einstein, Michael Jordan, Walt Disney, Steve Jobs, Oprah Winfrey, The Beatles and many more all experienced challenges that looked like failure. Millions of Trademark opportunities appear incognito. They do not look Artificial. Their very existence look like doom and gloom. But see them for what they are-a chance to reach higher.

An opportunity to Succeed.

Today, if things are going awry, look at them for what they are…..opportunities to succeed.

Keep going. Don’t stop.
