Things Change …
When things change … when you’re thrown off life’s treadmill without notice, it knocks you off-balance. A friend was working with the same company for over 25 years and recently lost her balance when she was told that the job no longer existed. Though the writing was on the wall, when it happened it was like a sharp blow. Separation like death was strange. It was final.
I thought about how I could or should comfort her. But what could I say? What are the right words? Are there any right words? Questions, questions, questions.
As an HR practitioner working in the field for over 20 years I thought about what could I say to her. Here I share a few thoughts:
First, get some rest. It’s important to face the reality of the situation. After ‘grinding the mill’ for many, many years, it’s important to take some time out to relax.
While relaxing, reflect on the next steps. What do you want to do? Why do you want to do it? Does the ‘why‘ provide an opportunity to make a change in career path? A change in location? A change in mindset? Begin with the end in mind. Where do you see yourself in the next chapter of your life? Picture yourself 5, 10, or more years down the road accomplishing your goal, then work backwards.
Prep The Next Steps. Once you decide on where you want to go, make a plan. Prepare for the next steps. Do you have skills that you could sell to someone else as an entrepreneur? What about exploring a different area of work. Know that the novelty of a new career endeavor is exciting. Prep that plan. Write it down.
Step out. Act. Act on the plan that you came up with. When you start acting on the plan, review it often…at regular intervals to ensure you stay on track.
So if you have been there, lost your job and remain disappointed, dejected, or even stuck, get with the plan today. Start acting. Talk with a professional coach if needed and get your life back in order. Need help? Lets connect.

I’m moving and they are renovating the space that I will be moving into. As they work, everyday I pass by and secretly take a peek at the progress of the work. It brings such joy and satisfaction to watch the place come to life. The same is true as I watch other dreams come true. I love HGTV – the home and Garden show where they have Fixer Upper, the Property Brothers and the others. It’s very hard for the contractors to keep their prospective homeowners at bay because they like to watch their dreams unfold.
That is true of all of us. Whether it is watching a business grow, a career come to life or a child get married. The Royal family is a sure example as millions watched around the world as a fairytale came to life. A ‘normal’ everyday American girl get married to one of Britain’s most eligible bachelor …Prince Harry.
Retrospective. So never give up on your dreams. At times the journey will get hard but keep plodding and watch that vision come to life. You will reap that enduring joy that it brings.
What’s the dream that you’re waiting on? Do share. We’d love to hear.

Downsize! Disrupt your life. Empty nester or not. Things Disappear, they don’t make you happy. My love of transitions began when I entered midlife…a crisis that now ranges between 30 and 40 years old these days. It was a time of Awkward craziness for me. I was already ‘successful‘ as society defines it but I wanted more. I wanted a change but didn’t know what to do. From being in the middle of my kids…one a college student away from home, and the other in elementary school (talk about change right)!
But it turned out to be a great learning experience and continues to be.
So now I say make a change! Disrupt your life! Yea it’s scary but it will help you learn to live happy and more appreciative.

Strive and Reach for what you can Achieve
My eyes caught the attention of an article titled “Giving up”. It quickly sparked my interest because I usually steer away from ever giving up. In my youth I did track, and for all those athletes out there, you know just how much effort it takes to get in shape. To stick to your goal. To become fit and ready for that race. As I advanced into maturity, the same held true for me. It became the very grain of my existence. During college, and career advancement, I never gave up. Now as a consultant and coach, I Mentor and encourage entrepreneurs, managers, and employees, to stick to their goals, dreams, and aspirations.
That article reminded me of another I had read about success and fear. Both fear and the desire to give up intertwine and cripple us, often fueling negative thoughts and actions. There are many individuals who throw away their lives becoming lethargic, stuck, wasted, straying away from their goals, get into trouble, end up self-imprisoned, or worse. Not to mention those dying at age 25, yet buried at 75.
I say burst that Bubble! It is delightful to strive and reach for what you can achieve!
Enter the power of U-Turns. U-Turns remind us to get up, dust off, find a mentor or support system, and get back on track.
The writer in the first article “Giving up” concluded with a twist. He suggested being wise enough to know when to stop, refuel, and get back on track. So make that U-Turn today. Shake off that fear. Shake off the very thought of giving up…and as Mahatma Gandhi said, “Be the change you wish to see in the world”. Apply it to yourself. Be your change today.

Each person holds so much power within themselves that needs to be let out. Sometimes they just need a little nudge, a little direction, a little support, a little coaching, and the greatest things can happen. ~Pete Carroll
Look around you. It’s obvious people live in a state of ‘I wish‘. I wish things were different then I would do this, or that; they often say. At birthday parties we blow out the candles and make a wish. But what is often overlooked is the fact that our private wishes CAN come through! Oftentimes, we are our own inhibitors.
If only we would act. Act on our desires and our wishes, then our dreams would come through. One athlete at the Rio games shared a goal that he had written in his high school Year book years before. It said simply: “my goal–to become a world-class athlete“; and he did.
We can do it too. All we need to do is Act. We are not all able to do it on our own and that’s when it’s wise to Partake and seek the help of a coach. Someone who has your interest at heart. Someone who will be available to lead and guide you to take the right steps and make the right decisions.
Here are 3 common Questions people who need a coach ask.

There is always someone in the background that hardly anyone else knows about. He/she is your source of inspiration. Your source of strength. Your source to hold on or run to when the going gets tough.
Who is that Radiant person who is always there for you? Why not connect with them today. Say Thanks.

You got a dream… You gotta protect it. People can’t do somethin’ themselves, they wanna tell you you can’t do it. If you want somethin’, go get it. Period.

There are many more movies that inspire us to believe in our dreams. Movies that encourage us not to give up when the going gets rough. Movies that move us beyond the Horizon into self-discovery… a place where the sky is the limit.
Can you add any of your favorites?
