Of Goals and Desire …

say quietly to yourself…”shut up and jump”…

Desires. Desires. We are often  filled with Desires of dreams, goals, and aspirations to do this or that. To accomplish our best. To become our best. To be successful. But our desires are often hindered by restrictions we place on ourselves–at most by our fears.

Why not take the chance today to step out and do something that you have always wanted to do? Just say quietly to yourself…”shut up and jump“!  You may be surprised at how much you achieve.

5 Ways To Overcome Bad Luck

Have you been doing some things that seem to attract results that differ from what you really want?

“Why does this keep happening to me?”  This question is often asked by those down in the dumps, or  who have a stream of ‘bad Luck ‘ that seem to follow them. Charlene was always late. Late for exams, late for work, late for appointments, late for time with her family…she was late for just about everything. Yet she utters these words when she is fired, dumped, kids faltered etc. But is there something she’s doing wrong that causes these stream of ‘bad luck’ to follow her? Let’s give her the benefit of the Doubt.

Most of us can think of situations that are like that of Charlene’s. People will tell you to follow old wives  fables such as throwing salt over your left shoulder, burning incense, carrying protective charms, lighting a few candles of specific colors, and much more to change streams of bad luck. But life is more than that. Perhaps we can Carve out the time to try a new approach. Here are 5 ways that may help.

5 Practical Ways to Overcome Bad Luck

Reflection

Reflect on your life and where you have come from. Have you been doing some things that seem to attract results that differ from what you really want? As you reflect, pen your thoughts. Keeping track helps you know where bad habits are so you can do something about them.

Take Action

Once you have considered where you have been going wrong, take corrective action. Do something different that will lead to a more positive result. If you are always late, then make a deliberate and conscious decision to be on time. Wake up earlier. Leave earlier. Afterall time is money. You lose it if you’re late for work, or pay fees such as missing airline flights, not to mention bills that lead to bad credit. So Quicken your interest and spring into to a new habit before it’s too late.

Learn And Grow

Take the time to learn something new. If you have a bad habit that you want to correct, Center your efforts on improvement. Read up on it. Get help. Learn how to fix it. It is in the learning that the change will come.

Don’t be afraid to Step Out

Stepping out to do something different can be daunting. It is something that most of us avoid. Afterall, we don’t want to make mistakes. We don’t want to live with regrets. But it is in stepping out in spite of our fears that make us succeed. Many are the examples of society’s leaders and those we admire who stepped out and eventually succeeded. You don’t have to think far. Just picture the famous ‘selfie’ that many can’t seem to do without. Commonly done using an iPhone. Yessss… Steve Jobs took a leap and it worked! Now we eat, sleep, and dream using the device (but that’s another story …smile).

Celebrate Small Wins

Celebrate as you progress. Encouragement goes a long way for both ourselves and others. Celebration  does not have to be expensive. It can be as simple as doing something you enjoy. The important thing is that you recognise the progress you’re  making.

So today make a conscious decision to make a change. Make a U-turn. Do it slowly to avoid getting dizzy. And even if you do get a little dizzy and knocked off your feet, get back up! Continue moving. Your dreams, goals, aspirations, and those close to you won’t be able to miss it.

People Who Found Success Despite Failure…

Stephen was blindsided. He lost his job. Had nothing to do with him. His employer decided to cut staff. Despite having a wife and two children to care for, he was sent home without notice to face his mortgage, bills, and cover life’s basic needs.

Maria left high school, got her first job and now after 3 years feels lost as she sets her eye on the supervisor position that just opened up. She asked herself should she apply? Would she qualify? Faced with the daunting fact that she has no certification or formal education, she felt depressed. She had delayed formal training after high school to make ’em dollars. Now what?

Lidia and Bill became engaged 2 years ago and want to take the next step to get married but feel scared to make the decision. Questions bothered them. Will they be able to afford a house? Should they have children? Will they end up divorced after a few years like their friends Rory and Aley?

Life Decisions

Life can seem like an Arid desert at times. The scenarios shared are common throughout life as individuals make decisions associated with periods of transition. But many are the successful people before us who have been there, faced decisions, in some cases failed initially but eventually succeeded. Think of J.K. Rowling, Walt Disney, Dr. Seuss and countless others.

Today if you are facing a life decision, cast your worries and fears aside. Get help if needed. Know that being anxious is normal and actually help to propel us to the next step. Even when you’re afraid move forward, take the step, keep going and you too will achieve your dreams, goals and aspirations.

Haters Will Hate. Don’t Let it Stop You

Haters will hate. That’s what they do. So stay focused despite the criticisms. Stand firm. Believe in yourself. Be empowered by your vision, dreams, goals and aspiration. Don’t let the Slur of negativity stop you. Keep going. You’ll succeed despite the odds.

All That Glitters…

All that Glitters is not gold. It’s a common saying that means things are not all that they appear to be. It’s an important facet to consider when making decisions. So be sure to check out:

  • The new job and corporate culture before you sign your acceptance.
  • Get to know your partner before you marry…yikes!  (habits, likes, dislikes, meet-the-parents, past experiences, plans for the future…do they include you)?
  • Investigate. Do a house inspection before purchase.
  • Research before you relocate
  • Read the reviews before buying the product (including return policy).
  • Research and/or  visit college before deciding to go.
  • Know the genre before you write.
  • Know the Joneses before you try to keep up

These are just a few examples to what could be a very long list. So do your background checks before making life changing decisions. Some mistakes can be avoided.

Cheers!

Don’t Blur the Lines…

Just be you…

Don’t Blur the lines between who you are and who you want to be. Don’t try to be like others. Just be you. Your success will then be guaranteed.

Cheers!

Years Later…How Would They Find You?

If someone you know who left town 10 years ago returned today, how would they find you? Lukewarm? Would you still be living in the same place? House the same color? Furniture in the same place? Would you be in the same job? Same career? Eating the same? Dressing the same? Would you still be…….(fill in the blank).

Something to think about. Change is good.

Cheers!

What to Do When You Don’t Know What to Do…

clearing your mind of the dissonance so common to times of transition.

Years ago I bought a book titled What to do when you don’t Know What to do. I was going through a period of transition. I didn’t know what to do, or where to go. I wandered into a bookstore and started searching for something…anything. After browsing for about an hour, I saw that title and it spoke to me. Without thinking I bought the book.

Another time I was at the airport traveling on business and needed something to read. Then I saw it …a book titled Sometimes you Win, Sometimes you  Learn by John Maxwell. Another travel search – God Will Make a Way. Sometimes just reading the title draws me in and makes me buy the book. I have learned that books speak to us as though it were divine intervention, Lovingly shouting” here I am, buy me”! So writers, write on! Even your titles sell books!

Times of Transition

In essence, whenever you’re going through stuff…be it on the job, in your business, relationship, friends or family that causes you to Tremble, go to your quiet place and whisper. The silence will draw you into that place where you can experience quiet, loving solitude and inner peace. If time away does not help, then speak with a coach, or a professional who can assist you with clearing your mind of the dissonance so common to times of transition.
