When The Rug Gets Pulled: Navigating Unexpected Job Loss

You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face — Eleanor Roosevelt

Uncertainty and fear are common these days as both federal government and private sector battles with job security.

Government jobs once thought of as the most secure are now being eroded. Employees across the board are now forced to adapt quickly or be left behind.

In this video, Chris Daley, and I in my capacity of Certified Master leadership Coach, explore the emotional and practical challenges faced by workers who experience sudden, unexpected job loss. We share how professionals across various industries can arrive at work only to be told their positions had been eliminated—with little to no warning.

The video briefly examines:

📍The initial shock and emotional impact of unexpected termination

📍Common corporate practices that leave employees in the dark

📍Immediate financial concerns and survival strategies

📍The psychological journey from disbelief to acceptance

📍Practical steps to take after job loss.

Whether you’re currently dealing with sudden unemployment or want to prepare for corporate uncertainty, this video offers both emotional support and actionable advice for those facing one of life’s most challenging professional transitions.

The Insights: What Will We Do After Corona? 21 Projected Changes…

To stand still is to be left behind

COVID_19 will incorporate changes throughout the USA and worldwide. Gone are the days of resistance to societal changes. There will be some who still resist but soon they will be dormant. To stand still is to be left behind.  But while we wait for the cure, a new vaccine and more, we practice safe measures, quarantines and more.  Here are a few basic gleanings that’s highly possible will become the norm for businesses and individuals:

  1. Some organizations may incorporate work-from-home for some positions as a new way of working.
  2. Some employees delighted for the break, may never return to work in a physical office structure. We call it exposure to work / life balance.
  3. Some businesses may never recoup and go under.
  4. Some businesses will expand or diversify. For example, a business that provides recruitment to hundreds of hotels has been placed on hold as the hospitality industry was forced to a halt. Meanwhile the healthcare industry booms in response to the pandemic. Same business but incorporating different industries. We call it diversification.
  5. Some Celebrities will fade while others will enormously gain.
  6. Smaller churches and religious leaders exposed to the expanse of online possibilities to minister to the sick and shut-in. No doubt they will venture out bench-marking those well known preachers. Competition rampant even among churches? Yikes!
  7. World-wide Entertainment. The exposure of Digital media to those who didn’t have a clue of its existence (living in the dark ages, I’d say). Online movie-goers will expand into mobile users accompanying their musical mix. Expansion, expansion, expansion.
  8. Some parents… now introduced to the ‘joys‘ of home-schooling, will decide to do so as a way of life. Better Control and safety they’ll say.
  9. Some parents may even start their own school.  Hmm …the exhilarated insight to new entrepreneurship!
  10. Lets not forget healthcare as more patients, workers, laissez faires will be more willing to use telemedicine!  Yep! no more resistance to the doctor-on-call.
  11. Research and Development (R&D) will speed up provided they have the investment/ financial funding.
  12. Record numbers of census sign-ups…never seen before?
  13. Real Estate will see increased number of interests from homeowners who will want a dedicated space to work at home. Four bedroom anyone?
  14. More will be willing to purchase their dream cars online. Oh the delights to test-drive and return later for a better ride
  15. Some barbers and hairdressers will lose business as clients will try to do their hair at home. Yep! Mistakes get better with time.
  16. Other Masters of hair-care will expand as they become more mobile or more flexible… trying this, that, or the other.
  17. Virtual meetings will soar as those who didn’t know become exposed and be bold enough to experience the joys of technology …the virtual enabler.
  18. E-commerce will soar making virtuality a normality for sure
  19. Oh and what of governments, policies, and politics? We’ll leave that for you to explore.
  20. Individualized self-discovery, and willingness to learn will explode, giving rise to
  21. The escalation in anything new as we innovate, innovate, innovate!

Tons more will rise but for now it’s your turn. Any changes you have noticed that you would like to add? Do share. We would love to hear!

Cheers!

The 6 Signs It’s Time To Change Your Direction…

img_1863

Ever felt that nudge when you know something is off. That nudge that just won’t go away. We ignore it. Distract it. Do everything we can to procrastinate or avoid that funny feeling that we get. The feeling that only you can identify.

Yes we have all been there. It might be that change in our career, relationship, finances and more. Knowing when it’s time to make that move–to do something different. It’s important to do it and not wait until your circumstances get drastic and the change is forced upon you as can happen when we are forced out of a job.

The Daily Positive shared the 6 Signs For You To Change Direction.  Check out the YouTube video or take a look at the list as it is captured and shared here.

  1. You keep pushing and nothings happening. It’s like your Head is against a brick wall
  2. Everything seems to be falling apart
  3. You consistently don’t feel good and the only time you feel good is when you escape for a moment …be it for the holidays, vacation, a night out or other
  4. Life sends you signs. Recurring themes keep showing up
  5. Your intuition keeps nudging you and you keep ignoring it
  6. Your body is sending you signals that something is not right.

Great list right? Reflect today and take the step to change your direction because its needed. Forge your path using Success Strategies   Need help? Lets connect.

Take The Risk: Jump

Sometimes in life you have to just make the move. I jumped 14,000 ft from a skydive high above the sea. The open air, sea, and clouds were all I could perceive. No easy feat. Like a Rube garbed in Costume, I was as scared as ever. But, with a trained guide affixed to my back and the wonders of a reliable parachute, I did it! (yikes)!

Today, I encourage you to step out and do whatever you want to do. Simply plan it, and with wisdom…do it even when you’re afraid.

Here’s a synopsis of my journey through the eyes of my youngest.

Go, make yours happen!

Cheers!

Beneath The Surface…

img_5945

What we don’t see….CAN hurt. Violence, anger, strife, held beneath the surface can cause harm.  Such harm often leads to hurt, fear, pain that maim, and even ultimate death.

Look around. This has been on the rise. Happening often with the common comment “quiet person causes no harm”.

Silent River Runs Deep.

Silent River Runs Deep… is an old fable that seems to be  applicable these days.

Woke up to the news that a father shot his 2 kids then  turned the gun on himself. The feedback …”good parent, no signs of child abuse, always good father”. And there are many many more stories like this.

What’s going on?… is the common question.

Time for society to pull together. To work together within our communities to help. Signs. There are always signs. If only we see, if only our eyes are open. We’re now a society with heads down. Heads down in our phone. Heads down in virtuality, when the real world holds us as victims.

It’s time to raise our heads up. Open our eyes. Take a look at our neighbors, coworkers, friends, families; and at times our foes; our haters, our enemies. Let’s look; recognize the signals being sent. All around us there are signs.

Let’s not wait until it’s ….too late.

To Lead. To Wade. Darkness

To lead, to Wade…Darkness. Life’s unexpected changes often knock us off our feet. Business fail. Sudden job loss, relationship spiral, sickness, accidents, natural disasters, tragic losses. These changes knock us off our feet causing darkness in our souls, our lives, our all. We look around and all we see is gloom and doom.

Questions abound often going unanswered. Why? Why didn’t we listen? Why weren’t we forewarned? …Then how. How could this happen? How could we have not seen, or heard? How can they not care?

Enter the example of the ‘sudden’ departure of Basketball’s Icon Dwayne Wade from the Miami Heat . The why’s, the how’s, and the blames reign. Answers  provide little comfort as he walks behind the heels of those gone before.

That’s how it is with change. It throws us off balance and causes alarm, cries, and sighs. We want things back the way they were!

But often there are warning signs.

So today activate your senses. Keep your eyes wide open…see. Keep your ears attuned. Look around. Listen. Often the signs are very evident if only we are in tune.

Stay healthy. Stay alert. Stay focused. As darkness draws nigh, we always see the sun setting.

Peace.
