New Mayor’s Historical Appointment. Success And The Challenges He Had To Overcome…

I was flying out of the Fort Lauderdale International airport to Washington DC for a conference when I heard the familiar voice of Broward County’s newly appointed Mayor VC Holness announcing welcome to visitors. Mayor Holness made history recently when he was unanimously voted to become the first Black Mayor to lead the county. Indeed an achievement.

Success Strategies Research

Personally I extend my own congratulations because years ago when I conducted my research on Success Strategies of Caribbean American Leaders in the United States with Nova Southeastern University, Mayor Holness quite willingly agreed to participate in the phenomenalogical study. At the time he was Commissioner. In the research he shared the strategies he used to become successful as well as the challenges encountered along the way.

Regardless of how we feel about politics, his appointment signifies a goal he went after and achieved.

Mayor Holness continues to strive. To work hard to show those who wish to achieve that it can be done through hard work and dedication.

More of his story as well as those of other industry leaders in healthcare, aviation, education, media and more can be read in the book Success Strategies of Immigrant Leaders In The United States.

Thanks again Mayor VC Holness for your willingness to go beyond the call of duty to share your experience to benefit rising millennial leaders.

Cheers!

Tyler Perry’s Dream. An Inspiration To Dream Bigger. 4 Icons Speak…

Dream. Then Dream Bigger.

I think it’s pivotal in everything that we’ve done, everything that we’re doing still, that we continue to try to motivate and inspire people,” Perry told The Associated Press

October 5th marked an historical achievement. Tyler Perry became the first black American to own a major film studio. An achievement that has left many motivated and inspired. Oft we frown on homelessness but hard times hit the best of us. When it does, here ‘s evidence of one who embraced the challenge to never give up on your dreams, goals and aspirations.

Tyler Perry’s Studio launch Interview

For years Tyler Perry dreamed. Then later dreamed even bigger. Now his dream has come through and in the midst of it all, he inspired many. Here are excerpts from household names who he inspired.

Beyonce

Congratulations Tyler Perry on the opening of his tudios. I could feel our ancestors presence. Surrounded by my heroes, I watched Denzel, Queen Oprah, Spike, Whoopi, Sir Poitier, Will Halle, Dame Cicely and our angels John singleton and Diahann Carroll honored. The Armand de Brignac crashed against each sound stage as fireworks lit up the sky. Generations of blood, sweat and tears; success, excellence, and brilliance. It makes me so proud. So full. I could not stop crying. Thank you my Virgo brother for so much love and passion put into every detail. My prayer today is that you will take it all in. You inspire me to dream even bigger.

Will Smith

We flew down to Atlanta to be with Tyler Perry as he opened the First and largest Black-Owned studio. This moment is monumental in so many ways. A sound stage in my name? Wow! I’m inspired and honored to be part of something of this magnitude.

Oprah

He didn’t wait for other people to validate or to say you should go this way or that way. He said I’m going to create my own way and as we can see, became a force for himself.

Samuel Jackson

This is more about Tyler the entrepreneur. The visionary. A guy who understands that ownership means that you can do what you want.

Work Hard And You Will Achieve Success

These are all well known celebrities but they all started out in their little corner… working, sweating, doing their own thing. Through blood, sweat and tears, they never gave up and one day achieved.

Forget the naysayers. You too can dream big! Work hard enough. One day you will achieve. In the interim be inspired by the success of others who pave the way to achieve things both big and small along the way.

Go ahead…you too can achieve your own dreams.

Success: The Iceberg Illusion…

Who sees your whole iceberg? The failures, fears, hard work, and the will to never give up in pursuit of your #goals. Arianna Huffington shared this graphical reminder of this common analogy of the success people see but not the sacrifices made along the way.

Something to think about as you continue your pursuit to achieve your goals, dreams and aspirations.

Keep going. Never give up.

The Hikes of Success

Hiking is like life. The Journey requires you to put one foot in front of the other …again and again. And if you allow yourself to be present throughout the entirety of the trek, you will witness beauty every step of the way, not only at the summit. ~Unknown

Traveling in the slow lane, I  get angry. I get upset. Forgetting that I’m traveling in the slow lane. My progress is slowed. My destination eludes me and seem to get further away. My anger grows. My frustration… like a fuse lights up, ready to explode!

But that’s how it is with life. Missed steps, missed deadlines, procrastination. Failed  business, exams, twisted careers, and more cause us to feel like we  are driving in the slow lane. Our goals, dreams, aspirations seems unreachable. We get angry, frustrated, feel punished. But that’s because we have gone off course. We fail to plan. We fail to focus. We fail to keep our eyes on the goal. Milestones recede…ebbs away in the distance. One by one. We procrastinate saying I’ll get it done tomorrow…, but tomorrow never comes.

Successful Leaders Lead…

Successful leaders think, lead, grow and win.

Brian Tracy’s 7 Steps To Success…

Would you like a formula for success? It’s quite simple, really: Double your rate of failure. You are thinking of failure as the enemy of success. But it isn’t at all. You can be discouraged by failure or you can learn from it, so go ahead and make mistakes. Make all you can. Because remember that’s where you will find success.” ~ Thomas J. Watson

Success Carries Weight. Find That Balance…

The heaviness of being successful was replaced by the lightness of being a beginner again, less sure about everything. It freed me to enter one of the most creative periods of my life. ~Steve Jobs

Success is a joy. It brings satisfaction beyond measure. But as we progress we find it can become burdensome as in the case of celebrities, burnt-out executives missing family time, entrepreneurs, career enthusiasts, and myriads more. Sometimes success carries weight.

Reflect On Your Why

Today, reflect on your why. Why you want to go where you want to go. Reflect on why you want to do what you want to do. Then go… find that Success. But as Steve Jobs learnt, create that balance. Only then you will find that lasting peace. That solace that’s sure to bring you joy.

Cheers to the new you!

Wake Up To Make Up…

Capture The Moment

Years ago when she was a child, my little niece would come up to me and compliment me on how nice my makeup looked. She grew from a young debutant admirer into one of South Florida’s top Makeup Artist doing the likes of BET’s last CEO Debra Lee, Andrienne Bosh-wife of Chris Bosh, Empire’s delightful ‘Cookie’ Taraji Phenson, tennis champ Serena Williams, the lovely Vivica Fox … and tons more household names.

Recently, I sat with her to get my own consult on the latest makeup application. Always have to keep up with the times and fashion changes. Woohoo! I got my training!  It’s a must for Job interviews, and major events when you want to look your best doing your own thing. Not to mention those special occasions like weddings when you just can’t do it on your own.

And what about men? She does them too! Just ask Usain Bolt, Ne-yo, John Legend, Kanye West, Pitbull, and many more.

Thanks Nordia for your very valuable insights and your warm hospitality. Cheers to the future filled with promises of great things to come.

7 Strategies New Entrepreneurs Lack That Cause Failure…

If planning is important, execution is everything

Done! Then Came The Hard Part…

Years ago I decided to publish my research on Success Strategies. This after interviewing heads of organizations in healthcare, media, aviation, politics, education, and such industries. I was thrilled! Hurrah I had published my first non-fiction book that was professionally edited and peer-reviewed!

Then came the hard part. I was now an author, but how could I let others know that I had written something they may benefit from? Something that if the right person receives, it would help them to succeed in business and new career ventures. Not to mention that it would drive them to take the leap and make that change in their goals, aspirations and ability to manage themselves and others?

That set me on a path... to learn what I don’t know. It’s a quest that I am still on. Tons of hard work but I’m loving it! Fast forward several years later I have published other books on success and career change, personal development and motivation.

So if you find yourself thrust into the unknown and being faced with a situation that you must confront or be left behind, take the time to assess these 7 things new entrepreneurs lack that causes them to fail to succeed.

The 7 Lacks Of New Entrepreneurship

1.Lack of Vision. Do you understand how your dreams fit into the big picture?

2. Lack of Planning. Do you know where you want to go and how to get there?

3. Lack Execution. If planning is important, execution is everything.

4. Lack of Funds. No revenue.

5. Lack of Marketing. How will others know that you exist?

6. Lack of good people. Hiring the bad. The cheap. The uncommitted.

7. Lack of Resilience. Giving up too early.

Are you a New Entrepreneur? Did any of the above resonate? Any that you think should be a part of this list? Do share. We would love to hear.

Cheers!
