In My Safe Place, Dr. Shelly Cameron talks about what to do when life’s tragedies hit, when you feel stuck, confused, and your life spirals out of control, where do you turn? How do you handle it? Where is your Refuge?

In this book you will find:

  • Inspirational Short Stories and Exhortations to Uplift you
  • Prayers and Encouragement for Difficult Journeys
  • Guidance to Identify God’s Purpose and Leading when you are Confused
  • What to do when Enemies Strike
  • What to do when Waiting on God

If you or a friend feel like giving up and do not know where to turn, then this book is for you.

Bird Attack!

A lil bird! Yep a lil tiny bird. A simple walk to get the cardio steps in, turned into a run for our lives! Sounds funny but it’s true. A little bird perched atop a light-pole swooned in above our heads. It attacked Zeus the dog first as if attempting to pick him up for a quick getaway. When my youngest countered, it went after her. She ran. Then it went after me! What in the world? We galloped running for our lives from a tiny bird! I can hardly believe it.

Life’s Little Things

Has that ever happened to you? A seemingly little thing attacks? We have all been through it when a little flu-like feeling turned the world upside down. We thought it was too little a thing to cause harm. A tiny sound taken for granted causes serious accidents to many on a highway. A newborn changes the lives of many relationships causing you to wonder who’s in charge? A simple mistake on the job has devastating consequences leaving many unemployed.

Yes life’s little things can have a great impact. For the positives we scream with joy! But when the negatives happen, we are thrown off. When fear of life’s little things happen, be confident and know that it will pass. Don’t give up on your goals. Build your resilience and look back at your learnings. Later, you’re sure to bask in your success.

Confused about a life change in your career or new business? Learn how to overcome in the book Ditch It Switch It.

Cheers!

Twitter’s Tales Of Mistakes And Blunders

So many inventions have been made from the blunders and mistakes that we make. The post-it notes was a mistake on the part of 3M setting it aside because it didn’t work for their purpose. Then kudos to Fry who thought it a cool tool to mark his page hymns. It’s now a tool that writers, readers, researchers, teachers, corporate and a gazillion more can’t live without. Keep trying people. If you never made a mistake you really haven’t tried anything new.

Here are a few responses to the tweet. Stay encouraged.

The Sea. The Beach. The Waves. Quiet Reflections…

The sea. The beach. The waves. It’s my safe place. I never want to leave. I sit coiled at the edge of the lazy beach chair, gazing in melancholy at the morning’s sunrise. All is still as time stops. As the sun began its heated quest, I sat pensively not wanting to leave.

Still fast asleep there’s no one in sight. Just me, as the waves batter the shore. My heart tugs as I long to rid life’s woeful work-related stress. I just want to stay to listen to nature’s quest. In quietness is where the heaven’s awake and gives me the strength to reach forward to start a new day, a new chapter, a time of serenity. I pray that I’ll listen as the spirit quietly leads, guides and directs my path.

In stillness is where I find my strength. Strengthen me lord, strengthen me. Speak and make me listen.

Blessing overflow.

Self-Care: 9 Ways To Sharpen The Mental Blade…

Be patient with yourself. Self-growth is tender; it’s holy ground. There’s no greater investment.”

Stephen Covey

The concept to sharpen the saw highlights the point that when you have been going, going, and going …and you can’t seem to see any results. Acknowledge that it’s time to stop. It’s time to refresh. It’s time for a break to get the rest you need to start thinking so you can be productive again.

Here are a few suggestions that Brett and Kate McKay shared in their article on how you can fuel your brain’s recovery and sharpen the mental blade:

  1. Read the Great Books
  2. Write a position paper on a topic of your choosing
  3. Listen to a stimulating podcast
  4. Listen to a Great Courses course
  5. Take an online course
  6. Attend a lecture at a local college
  7. Join a discussion group (synergizing mental and social domains!)
  8. Visit a museum
  9. Watch a documentary

Did any of the above inspire you? Are there one or few that’s missing that works for you? Do share, we would love to hear.

Life’s Ups And Downs…

Sometimes you have to let life turn you upside down so you can learn how to live right side up

Cicely Tyson. Pioneer

I could not miss the launch of Pioneer and Award Winning Actress Cicely Tyson’s New Book titled “Just As I Am” tonight. Two hours later the news broke that she had passed.

She had marked the occasion with an inspiring discussion led by fellow award winning actress Whoopi Goldberg.

I enjoyed the soul-searching private virtual share between both …as Miss Tyson shared her mission which was to make a difference in how women, especially women of color, were portrayed on screen.

Cicely’s life mission depicts how to recognize when to Ditch a career and switch into one of purpose.

The book is definite Read.

Cheers!

New Chapter…

Jenna, a writer experienced a terrible situation. After a book signing, her world turned upside down. She lost everything. Her husband, home and everything that meant something to her. Despondent and saddened, she was offered a ticket to Europe which she initially refused then later accepted and went on a solo trip. What should have been a short getaway turned into a life-changing adventure. On a whim, she bought an old house with lots of projects and rebuilt it one room at a time in a strange faraway country. That’s the story of one of my favorite movies “Under the Tuscan Sun”.

New chapters can be daunting. Life throws us a ton of bricks all at once. Before we know it, we are tossed deep into situations that are overwhelming. Such situations can be caused by anything. Let’s take a few examples:

  • A great situation that brings joy
  • Marriage
  • Births
  • Divorce
  • Deaths
  • Job change
  • Relocation – Move to a new area
  • Disappointing Health news
  • Accidents
  • Bad experience(s)
  • Actions that we regret which force the change

Questions To Ponder

What happens when this happens to others and not you?

What happens when it happens to you and not others?

Different response in each scenario but whatever the situation, be confident and know that you can survive. Though it can be hard at first, you can survive.

Something to think about if you or someone you know is going through a period of change now.

Cheers!

What’s That One Thing That You Are Afraid Of?

Fear isn’t real. It’s something we tell ourselves.

Will Smith

A writer asked a group the Question what is the one thing that you are afraid of. Fear often grips us whether real or imagined. My interest sparked, I peered into the responses of those who were quick to chime in. Here I share:

Just simply taking a quick glance at the responses, most are not real. They are in our imagination and stays there for a while. Personally, I was afraid to jump out of a plane. I did a tandem jump and faced my fear. Many fear things like job loss, health, and loss of loved ones. But today, if there is something you fear as we start a new year, face it and move beyond your fear. Remember, fear isn’t real. It is something we tell ourselves.

  • Thinking that there is something waiting for me on the other side of the shower
  • Walking up the basement stairs at night
  • Ending up alone
  • The fear of my husband dying from an epileptic seizure due to low blood sugar
  • Unexpected knock at the door and the person stands in an area where I can’t see them
  • If I fall sick and no one knows
  • The concept of eternity scares me. Living forever
  • I am terrified of plugs being left on when there’s no plug in there. I am convinced it will cause a fire.
  • I’m afraid I’m going to wake up one day and it turns out I never let my ex
  • That I will be popular and people will be bugging me all the time
  • Being held down, weight on me and not being able to breathe as in swimming under water
  • I have an irrational fear that I rub my eye I will accidentally slop and gouge out my own eye
  • Dying alone in my home of a heart attack or something and having no one realize it for weeks
  • Someone staring back at you
  • Public speaking
  • A deer will run out in front of my car during a late night drive in the country
  • Chicken bone being lodged in my throat
  • Waking up in a house fire
  • Ceiling fans that one is going to get lose and fall on me
  • A plane falling out of the sky and crushing me
  • Falling off a cliff
  • A plane crash
  • Fear of Success

Cheers!
