Job Hunting? 7 Ways To Prepare For Your Next Career Move…

Oliver Wendell Holmes
The greatest thing in this world is not so much where we stand, as in what direction we are moving.
A colleague in the industry asked me to address concerns about the unemployment situation during the pandemic. So what do we recommend to people who are job hunting? To those who live from pay check to pay check and now feel frustrated because they have hit rock bottom? Here are 7 Ways:
1. Build Mental Capacity
Build your mental capacity. Be honest about your circumstances. Keep yourself motivated when the going gets rough.
2. Ditch that Miserable Job
Go for that change. Need a career change? The best time is now. Interested in starting a business? It the right time. Go ahead and do it.
3. Do your Market Research
Consider the job you like
Be flexible, take what you can get (for now). It might be lower pay and benefits. But build it as part of your strategy. Just don’t let it be a permanent thing like a lot of people do. Then later they look around and realize years have passed. What should have been temporary slowly became permanent in the rat race of time.
4. Clean up your Public Profile
Recruiters and Hiring managers will check you out. So lead them to what you want them to see. Clean up that LinkedIn, Facebook and any other social media profile that you are active on.
5. Prepare
Prepare your Resume. This should be tailored to the job you are looking for and not the job that you had before. Get professional help from a coach if needed or get tips from the book: Your Career: Ditch It. Creative careers in media and entertainment industry such as artists and content-creators need a professional website. Simple will do. Just get it done
Do contact your references. Ditch the surprize. Nothing worse than one of your referees receiving a phone call for someone they haven’t heard from in 5-10 years or more. I know because that’s what happens to me time and again. Then you are expected to provide a good reference. No surprizes guys.
6. Upgrade Skills
What skills will you need in your new career? Will you need to upgrade? If so, go do it. Take advantage of Free training that has become available during the Pandemic. This includes the government’s re-employment assistance. They offer Free training for many career options. All you need to do is register.
7.Avoid Toxic Friends
Align yourself with a network who is going in the direction that you would like to go. Avoid toxicity.
Apply these 7 tips and have fun while you do it.

Useless. Doing Something Efficiently That Should Not Be Done At All…
Across from her I stood. Watching as she carefully arranged the papers for delivery. Unknown to her was the intrepid fact that her department would be cut the next day. No amount of hard work could Criticizeor change that fact. Decades ago who would ever have thought that society would change. Newspapers were no longer being read by the mass and the company had to cut back. Sad as it was the staff had to be reduced to save what little of the company that could be salvaged to its new online medium.
Peter Drucker was wise when he said there is nothing quite so useless as doing with great efficiency, something that should not be done at all. Tempted? Let’s examine our lives today. What are we doing so well that should not be…

Wanna Getaway? 5 Workation Hotel Stays You’ll Love…
Workation is the concept of a place to getaway for business and pleasure.
Forbes Travel Guide which gave 26 Ideas of Workations to take right now. It’s not really a new concept as I have always traveled for business. However, in my workaholic haste to return home, I regret not taking the time to chill and relax after my meetings and/or conferences….essentially, to smell the coffee.
Enter the advent of the worldwide COVID Pandemic. Hotels suffered grave hit as travel took an unfortunate plunge. As creativity stepped in, hotels have had to come up with innovative ways to stay afloat as individuals stay indoors to do the traditional yet now expanded survival work-from-home strategy. Unfortunately, as this tactic has becomes more common, misery stepped in at the end of the day. So this is a cute idea to take a deliberate action to getaway, work, relax and play after. Who can beat that 3-in-1 deal? I’d only suggest you ensure there’s WiFi! To give you a push start, here are 5 hotels that I have worked from which drove my own writing passion.
1. Disney’s Contemporary Resort

2. Sundial Beach Resort and Spa

3. Sonesta

4. GalleryOne DoubleTree Suites By The Hilton

5. Hutchinson Island

Hope these selections have opened your appetite to change things up a bit. But be very careful and disciplined with your selections. Your productivity may be compromised.
Happy Workation and keep Safe!

Goals. The Path. When You Can’t See Clearly, Slow Down or even Stop. ~ Dr. Shelly Cameron
The news reported sisters returning from a trip to Disneyland. The driver a mom in her early 20s, could hardly see due to immense fog and rain. She accelerated to get past the fog. Sadly, she drove head-on into another car that caused two fatalities. One family member said they couldn’t see clearly and that’s what caused the accident.
Innovation and Industry Disappearance
A friend shared with me a compilation of research that discussed the demise of Kodak whose name years ago was synonymous with photos. Gone. Disappeared. Artificial intelligence has taken over business. Before the pandemic, if we consider the likes of Uber, where a driver shows up at the click of a button to take you wherever you want to go. Airbnb vacation rentals has created disruption in the hotel industry. Social…

The Mistake. Frustration. Experience. The Learning…

I Thought I Made the Worst Mistake of My Career, But 3 Things Helped Me “Embrace the Suck” and Move on. ~Emile Lee
I love stories of resilience and learning and this is a great one espoused by The Business Insider. Here Emile Lee speaks about his encounter with an overseas career assignment that was not a fit. Mistaking his cultural background, he was hired on the spot for an assignment he wasn’t fit for. After mulling over the good, the bad, and the ugly, he stopped feeling sorry for himself and decided to embrace his circumstances and learn from his situation.
Looking Back
Looking back, he shares his learning. I have extracted the 3 key points that forged his new path.
1. Embrace The Suck
2. Use positive self-talk to open yourself up to risks and change
3. Seek out mentors and internal champions
Hope this story inspires you to keep going and never give up. Need help? Let’s connect.

Take A Day Away. Separate The Past From The Future…

Every person needs to take one day away. A day in which one consciously separates the past from the future. Jobs, family, employers, and friends can exist one day without any one of us, and if our egos permit us to confess, they could exist eternally in our absence. Each person deserves a day away in which no problems are confronted, no solutions searched for. Each of us needs to withdraw from the cares which will not withdraw from us. ~Maya Angelou
